Phayao by Night; July, 2025

Ah… Cinestill 800t, one of my favourite film stocks. In the 25-stocked film bag I travelled to Thailand with, at least a quarter of those rolls were Cinestill. Though I was hoping to pace them across the whole trip, I ended up shooting them all in Phayao… by day or night.

Phayao by Night is electrifying. Not in a fast-pace, big city sense, but there is this wonderful feeling of excitement within the air that I have not experienced anywhere else. The kind of electrifying that appeals to someone such as myself, with a more ‘quiet’ disposition. Vibrant and colourful on the eyes, but peaceful in atmosphere. I will now, below, share my favourite night shots of Phayao that I captured.

These night photographs are some of my favourite I have taken. The first one, at the very top of this article, may just be my favourite photograph I have ever taken… however, I will leave you with a night photo that was taken well outside the centre of town. Rather, it was taken in the threshold of our lodgings in the school we were teaching in. Here, we see a family of Northern Sooty-headed Bulbuls roosting for the night, right above our door frame:
